Harry A's can only be reviewed as a beach town restaurant and not be compared to urban upscale restaurants that set the dining trends; this thought keeps running through my mind. It has the beach decor of surfboards, colorful lights, and an outside patio with a bar and karaoke stage. The servers seem personable and take care of you with a smile. The food was pretty slow coming out, but it was expected with the large number of guests at the restaurant. We were surprised at the quality of food coming out of the kitchen; ahi tuna tacos, baja fish tacos, and perfectly prepared standards were great. The only negative comment I have is one of our dishes had a large piece of plastic in it, we gave it to our server, and no discount for the dish came. I understand that stuff happens, but that dish should have been comped with no questions. The server was very apologetic, but it was not her battle to fight. Parting thoughts. 1) Good service 2) Good food 3) Make sure you're on island time 4) Hope that everything goes smooth

I don't understand why everyone is putting this place down. I was there last night. And boy I was kind freak out when I first walked in there was nobody sitting inside. We asked the server if we could sit outside she absolutely. As we where walking threw the restaurant I saw the kitchen. It was very clean. That's a A+ for. As I have been working in restaurants all my life. As we walked out side they had live music and the place was fill. The prices of the food was reasonable and so were the drink prices. The service was good as well. I had a grouper sandwich with was wonderful so moist. And tasty. I would certainly come back.

This place rocks! Great outdoor patio space, huge tv for games, live band playing, a dance floor, dog friendly (they even bring iced water in a bowl for your doggie babies!) and let's not forget the mahi mahi with plantains is amazzzzzing!

Food was just ok. The AC is horrible so we literally sweated the whole time while sitting inside. I got the seared tuna it wasn't anything special. We also had the fish dip I didn't like it my husband did. It is filled with pimentos and was very spicy and I love spicy food. The kids got chicken tenders they were extremely over cooked they didn't even eat them.

Was there on vacation in late April 2014... had dinner here twice. Not judging the karaoke, trivia contests, live bands, or anything else. Just the food, the drinks, the service, the value and the overall atmosphere... all were well above average. So it's not on the beach... it also doesn't cost 3 times as much. My wife & I each had a wonderful dinner and a drink apiece for $10 less than four drinks alone cost at the "Blue Parrot". I (we) highly recommend the shaved prime rib sandwich... my wife says this alone is worth the drive from Indiana, and I can't disagree.

We stopped in while we were on the island during a recent vacation. The restaurant was having a day long rock show on the patio, and a $5 Long Island Ice Tea special (along with $2 off other mixed drinks). We (my boyfriend, our friend, and I) had a few mixed drinks, some delicious wings, a few great burgers, and the best shrimp tacos that I've ever had. The drinks were strong, but not too strong, and the food was pretty damn good for local bar food. The wings were touted as the best wings my boyfriend has ever had - the were the right crispiness, and the sauce was just hot enough, with a great taste. Our friend said his blackened burger was just spicy enough, and super tasty. The dragon shrimp tacos (shrimp tossed in a teriyaki-sweet chili sauce, then topped with a delicious Asian slaw) were the best tacos I've ever had, even when I finished them later as leftovers. The sandwiches (and tacos) were served with Cajun spiced fries, which were also delicious. The service was wonderful and the atmosphere was casual, divey, but fun and upbeat as well. Definitely a great place to stop if you're ever on the island. We'll definitely stop in again if we're ever here again!

I have mixed feelings about this place,... Service awesome, Food bad and good..? if that makes sense... Atmosphere, VERY noisy.. especially in the back by the games with especially drunk fishermen getting off work for the day,.. Let me start off by saying we had an awesome fishing trip through Journey's and had planned on grilling it back at the condo, until we found out you can take your fresh catch up to Harry A's and they will prepare it all for you!! - SWEET! We get there and our table is already set up in the back, so all we had to do was drop off our fish to the kitchen. We had a party of 9, all with different tastes, so we opted to get part blackened, part grilled, and part fried. The blackened was very good, we all agreed the fried was our favorite- they did a really good job with that, but The grilled had no flavor to me whatsoever,- I couldn't even eat it. Very bland. As were my sides- The fried potatoes were just that.. Potatoes, cut up and fried. No flavor, No seasoning. Same with the cole slaw. Just not a fan. All in all, it was a decent meal, and we didn't have to put in any work to eat the fish we caught, so that was a plus. And our waitress was very friendly. PS- there are a few games in the back if you have children

I want to like Harry A's. I go to the beach every year, and I always eat or drink there on a few occasions during my stay. I can not like it. Service: not great, slow, and by gosh they run you out of there in the most rude manner when it is closing time! Cleanliness: the beach bars must struggle with this. Humidity and alcohol seem to absorb poop smells and trash stink. Because this bar's restroom sits in an alcove between the interior and the courtyard (neat courtyard), it just stinks to walk through it every single time. The grounds and tables are in the standard, however. Food: I have had pretty good food here and I have had not so great. It never seems to be consistent. I have never been poisoned here, so I guess that's good compared to their beachfront competition. Drinks: so so. They are pretty lazy about mixed drinks, sometimes so strong they taste like booze on the rocks and other times tasting like the mixer or whatever only. None of my companions ever received the same amount of drink in our glasses, but they certainly all cost the same! Expensive drinks should be prepped with care. Entertainment: this bar is one of two that I am aware of on the island that commonly charges a cover for entertainment. I'm not paying. Why would you pay a cover to stand in a courtyard with desperate methed up women and men when you can be at another bar down the street watching great musical talent in the open where you could flee if you needed to? I'll tell you why they get away with this, because they are one of only three places that serve mixed drinks instead of just beer and wine, and one of the others also charges a cover and the other doesn't do nightly entertainment. So, there's that. I've learned to like beer. When I first began going to the island, the management was different and I found everything much better. It's my understanding that management and perhaps ownership has changed many times since then, so maybe they are working on stepping it up, or maybe not.

Fun atmosphere here but the food was mediocre. My daughter and I ate here on a Friday night when we were staying on the Island. We sat out on the patio which put us front and center for the band that was going to play that night. There is a nice drink menu and the drinks were reasonably priced. However the drink my daughter got wasn't what she ordered. She drank it anyway with no complaints. However, when she ordered a second drink that was just a regular mixed drink we were charged the higher price for the specialty drink. The waitress told us the price was correct , but when I ordered the same drink at the bar it was $1.50 cheaper. We had the fried pickle app which was served piping hot and was tasty. My daughter is a vegetarian so her options were limited. She had a cheese quesadilla which was pretty standard. I had the flounder which was deep fried beyond recognition It had that dark brown crust that you get when the oil is too hot. Why do this to fresh fish? I had key lime pie for dessert which was good. We then stuck around to listen to the band which was fun. In sum, if you're looking for a casual atmosphere with live music, this place rocks. If you're looking for great food , you'll have to look elsewhere.

Great staff. Lots of options on the menu.fish tacos are great. Best deal. Dragon shrimp tacos the best! Backyard patio is the best kept secret. Live music!

Harry's needs to improve the following: 1. Service-when my family and I went on a Sunday night, the orders were backed up and it was over an hour before we received our meal. 2. Food quality-everyone commented that the food was "eh" and "so-so." I know Harry and his crew can do better and I'm hoping they will make improvements in the foreseeable future.

First, they make some great seafood and I owe this to good use of spice by the kitchen. I liked the classic bar arcade and courtyard with a big stage. It is your basic beach bar with the restaurant as a second thought. The dining room needs some attention because the air conditioning vents dripped condensation on us at our table. My problem with Harry A's had mostly to do with poor service by our waitress. It was a light crowd for 7pm but even with that considered I could tell the wait staff was thin so this experience could be on poor managment. First we didn't get approached for a drink order for 15 minutes. Then when she realized we don't order alcohol I could tell we were immediately written off. She was impatient, unfriendly, and generally just made us feel uncomfortable during our whole time there. There were only 5 of us and we were constantly waiting for refills to the point I had to go up to the bar and ask for it. I hate to rate a place low that makes well prepared oysters, grouper, and shrimp. We might have just happened to get a bad waitress. Give it a shot of you are the right type of customer and you may have a positive experience.

Went here with family who live locally. The place came highly recommended and it not only disappointed, it was close to awful. The building itself is kinda cool, it has a fun kitschy vibe that I liked. We showed up around 11:30 am and had to ask someone to seat us. Our waitress was great though and the best part of our visit. I got the shaved prime rib sandwich thinking that would be flavorful and juicy like prime rib is. This was salty and cooked to death. Thank goodness for the horseradish sauce to mask the flavor enough to be edible. My wife got the shrimp tacos and also didn't find anything to be enthused about either. The shrimp were tiny and tasted boring. The men's restroom was smelly and gross too. After all this it cost $30 before tip! I'm glad I don't live close by so I don't have to go there again.

The atmosphere was just as you would expect, the food was much better! I ordered the nachos and can't believe still how BIG they were! (as least that's what she said ;) lol) My husband ordered the shaved prime rib sandwich and said it was pretty good too. Drink specials and daily food specials.

We came here Sunday night before labor day because it was one of the only places open after 9. We had a group of 9 but it wasn't too crowded. First they were out of oysters on the half shell which was kind of devastating to us. The toppings they had for them sounded so good :(. I had the shrimp po boy which was great. Good amount of shrimp and a tasty remoulade. I got the cheese grits which I also thought were good, but they are the fluffy kind so watch out if you're not into that. A few of the guys got oyster po boys which had 3-4 small oysters and was pretty disappointing. I had to give my boyfriend 3 of my shrimp to make his a reasonable sandwich. About half of our orders were wrong ( 3 or 4 cases of wrong side dish and they forgot half of my friend's fried platter) so idk if it was the waitress or the kitchen. Our waitress had a lot of excuses, but it could have just been a rough night and we weren't in a huge hurry so it was no big deal. I'd go here again hoping they had oysters, but I might check out one of the other places on the island first.

So far the best food we have had on St. George Island! They have a nice balanced menu selection with average prices. Started with fried pickles which were crunchy, but maybe a little on the greasy side. The raw oysters were fresh and delicious, but priced a little higher than some of the other restaurants on the island. The fish tacos and grouper basket were very generous portions for the price. The blackened catfish with cheese grits was FANTASTIC! The presentation was something you'd expect at a fancy restaurant. The blackened mahi mahi was also delicious, but not a fan of the mango salsa. We finished off dinner with a slice of key lime pie. It was dense and creamy with a thick graham cracker crust. It rivaled pies that I have had in Key West. Overall nice little restaurant with friendly service. We will definitely be back!

Service was super great. Food was lackluster. Fish tacos = thumbs down. Stale tortillas and fish just wasn't right.

Terrible service and way too loud, but fun environment for families Uneven food. Fried grouper was overcooked, but sesame tuna hit the mark. Fun, reasonably drinks, but on the thin side

Went for karaoke night with some friends. Ordered a pitcher of beer, margarita and chicken wings. Beer was cold but tasted weird like the pitcher was soapy when it was filled, got sick later. Not the first time I had been overcharged on SGI so it came as no surprise during this visit. Waitress seemed "Put out" that she had to wait on our table and told us it would be 45 minutes before the chicken wings would be ready. Needless to say we NEVER saw her again. On our way out we noticed that the crew was shutting the kitchen down at 10 o'clock. We ordered an hour and a half earlier...this was NOT a positive experience and doubtful that I'll try this place again. I'm certain that this place could be a fun place to hang out and have a couple of drinks with friends...maybe the staff was having a bad night.

Over priced and no good! We ordered crab legs, scallops, shrimp, and a prime rib sandwich. The sandwich had no flavor. The crab legs were cold. They served the crab legs with cold coagulated butter. They didn't ask how I wanted my scallops and brought baby scallops fried. Since I order all of my seafood steamed and I was adding the scallops on I thought would be steamed or grilled. They should ask how you want your food. The shrimp was ok but since the butter was cold I wasn't happy with them either. Th server was kind of out of it. She told us the specials and came back a few minutes later and went over it again. I asked her to check the price of a drink, she agreed, and never came back. When we ordered a pitcher of beer she brought a cup for my 13 year old daughter. Really?! The locals were trashy and drunk. I would pass on this place. Maybe go in to Apalachicola and try the Seafood Grill on Market.

Looks like a dive but the food is excellent. I had the crab pot and it was amazing. It's topped with Cajun seasoning and includes awesome sausage. My only complaint is that the "butter" on the side tasted like butter-flavored margarine and the corn was a bit rubbery. My sister ordered the pesto oysters and they were the best oysters I've had in a long time. Other people at the table ordered tuna tacos, catfish poboy, and yellowfin tuna dinner with broccoli and they all raved about how good they were. For dessert we had the key lime pie with raspberry sauce and loved it! Our waitress was super friendly and attentive; there was practically no wait and everything came out as ordered even though we had a large group.

I must admit I've never actually consumed a meal from Harry A's but I certainly have had my fair share of cocktails. It's a great venue if you feel like kicking back and listening to a decent live band, and I use the term decent loosely. Most of the crowd will kick off their shoes and cozy up to the stage for a dance party while others take a seat at the bar and watch the debauchery.

Great choice for casual Island dining. Kid-friendly, good menu selection and reasonably priced. Dined here twice during our week stay.

Friendly barkeeps, prompt service, live music at nights in the courtyard. Great time. Harry's bar selection is pretty extensive, many more options that most places on the island if you are looking for more than a beer.

Loved the food. Grouper, fried shrimp, chicken wings, shrimp & grits were all good. The crabber was great. Service was fantastic. Bar area looks real fun but didnt have the time to stay & enjoy it.

Great place to catch a game. We got there around 1030 and the kitchen was closed which is normal but kind of disappointing because you could always go for some nachos with your beer. But they do have free popcorn so that made up for it. Check it out!

I tried the appetizer sampler, the fried shrimp, the mahi mahi fingers, and the raw oysters. I also ordered a vodka and club soda with my meal. I liked that they had both seafood and non seafood options. My favorite thing on the menu that I tried had to be the jalapeno poppers (on the appetizer sampler) and the mahi mahi fingers. The raw oysters were meh (kind of tasted not so fresh). The fried oysters were straight up battered all around, thus losing its taste in the thick batter. Not my thing. The drink tasted like club soda. No hint of vodka what-so-ever. That was an expensive $6 club soda. I DID enjoy the atmosphere. On Saturday nights, the band apparently plays music outside. It's a good overall vibe, but since St. George Island doesn't offer cab rides you better find a DD for the night! Overall? Not so great food, not so great service (she skrewed up our orders a couple of times), but a fun atmosphere at night.

I've been here a few times and was not impressed - until now! I had a lunch prime rib sandwich that was the best I've ever had. The steamed veggies were fresh, lightly sautéed and yummy! Out waitress, Peggy, was funny and attentive. Oysters were very good. Almost as good as the oysters at blue parrot. I'll be back!

It's beach restaurant and bar, and thus should be reviewed as such. On Friday night it was crowded and loud, but the wonderful courtyard was empty because of the rain. Everyone says the music is great, but it must have started after we left at 9:30 pm. The basket of shrimp for $13.00 is a good deal, but the seafood plate at $22 is just ok. The $4 hushpuppies -- again -- are just ok. The Tex Mex Oysters are steamed with some cheese, salsa and jalapeños peppers sprinkled on them. After eating at the Blue Parrot and Eddy Teach's, Harry A's was 3rd on my list. Good, but lacked the view and vibe of the other places on SGI. I'll give it another try next time I visit St. George Island.

We had lunch there last weekend. Five in our party. Our waitress was fast and friendly. Food arrived quickly. My grouper Ruben sandwich was remarkable. Every one in our party was very happy with their meals. Check was prompt. Excellent service. Next time I visit Saint George Island I will make time to have lunch there.

Our experience was great. But we went on a Sunday night. Food was hot and cooked perfectly Gordon Ramsey would have been proud. Portions are crazy big and well worth the price. The deserts were crazy good. So this to us is the best place on the island so far.... I said so far.

  • Suzanne B.

Ate here twice during our week long vacation on the island. First night, we spent about $116.96 for 4 people, including two that were drinking. Food was not amazing, about average but you are paying for island convenience here. We had shrimp - good and fresh, we had hushpuppies - average, chicken finger basket - average, we had the mahi mahi and it was good and fresh. Mixed drinks are good but can add up quick if you are a drinker. You pretty much wear whatever you want too here. Tiki bar outside is nice, live music or karaoke at times. The next time, we ordered wings - delicious but wouldn't mix the flavors for us. We ordered the loaded nachos, they were awful because of the cheese sauce they used, they changed it up according to waitress because of new manager. My friend ordered the Rockefeller oysters and they were gross too because of the cheese, and they used to put fresh spinach and bacon, but no longer. Food is hit or miss.

Went here during a visit to St. George Island. This was the first place we found that was open late at night, and we were starving. We started off with a dozen raw oysters, and they actually brought out like 18 or so, however....... They came out like a minute or two after I ordered them. That would normally be a good thing at a restaurant, but with raw oysters, it means they're sitting in a fridge somewhere, losing their freshness until someone orders it. They were pretty bad-tasting oysters that were hard to remove from the shell. Fresh-shucked is the only way to go, people! For the main course, I got a low country boil and my wife got some grilled chicken. The portions were pretty good, but my meal wasn't. Shrimp were pretty dirty and the dish overall wasn't memorable. My wife's was very good though, and she couldn't even finish half of it because of how much they gave her. But eh, I've had better and they committed a cardinal sin with those raw oysters, so I won't be back if I'm in the area again.

Lets see..where to begin? I have been coming to SGI my entire life and only be here once..and that was plenty. When my family and I came we were seated up front where not many other customers were. Our waitress never came back for drink refills and acted sorry when one of us wanted a drink change. The prices were outrageous and better seafood can be found elsewhere. Our food took ages to get there. When we were finally finished one of our party members had to find our waitress because we waited 20+ min. for our bill. She was standing by the bar chatting. Finally, when it was time to go we left a small tip and I kid you not, as we were getting in our car, which was conveniently parked by the front door, our sorry waitress came barging through the front doors moving incoming customers out of the way, made eye-contact with us and flipped us off. We had a great laugh over that one, and still do. In conclusion, the name of this place describes it perfectly. Skip this one.

Whats in a name? In this case a lot. Cold beer, good buffalo shrimp and hit or miss service. It seems the later in the evening you go, the better the service.....or it could be the drunker you are and less you care. Either way, nothing great or unique about this place. Its a good ole island bar.

A pleasant surprise that has become a monthly tradition for us. Oysters are great and always fresh. Anyone that is impressed or scared with the speed at which the oysters come out don't be. They sell a lot because they are good so someone is always shucking. These come out of the water less than 6 miles away. You don't get any fresher. Also try the Harry a's hot sauce. I buy this and keep it in my home. Grouper good fried grilled and blackened. Breakfasts are very good but a little slow. A Great place to eat, drink, and listen to music.

We were lucky enough to stop a Harry A's the week after Spring Break. Don't get me wrong - nothing like a little Spring Break "action" to make your day or week. But that was a few years ago for my wife and I. We basically had the place to ourselves, sat outside, and had a great lunch. I had the Fried Oyster basket with fries, red beans and rice and hush puppies. Not necessarily good for you but definitely good tasting. Naturally, I had to have a beer to wash it all down. Something there is no shortage of at Harry A's. My wife had a fish sandwich with fries that was just as good. The prices were very reasonable and the service was excellent. Definitely a place for a return visit the next time we are in Tallahassee ( a really nice drive along the Gulf and a trip back through miles and miles of pine trees). The island is mostly rental properties (I think) and they are in the process of renovating a really neat lighthouse which was moved from a different location after it fell into the ocean. Quite the job of reconstruction. The place was practically deserted but I imagine it really hops during the summer months (we were there in April). This part of the gulf coast is pretty sparsely populated and it made for a nice ride just to go to lunch.

Food: Was basic not anything impressive. The chicken wings were not bad the wing sauce was good tasted like hooters. The hamburger tasted like a Walmart pre made. It was food like u cook at home just basic. Entertainment: It was a great atmosphere and the band was awesome. They engaged with the crowed and loved the out door relax setting. The place it self was so comfortable and had a fun great time it all made up for the basic food. Service: It took a long time for the food and the service personal were nice however took forever when u asked for something. The beer was high in price. 3.50 for a bud light 4.50 for import beer. Mixed drinks were $8. The wings were 10.00 what I realized is everything here in the area is kinda high priced. The crab legs were 24.99 and is the highest priced around we're at Eddy's it was only 21.99 and at the beach pit they are 19.00 Again I really enjoyed this place it was a blast and staff was really nice with lots of energy. They were all polite and had smiles. They joked and had a good time with customers:) I will go back to party and hang out again. Thanks y'all!!!

Harry A's has so much potential. Great atmosphere, cold drinks, trivia, and karaoke. But the service here pains me. We have come here 3 times in the past 2 years and the service is so slow it's ridiculous.. They have never gotten our order wrong or made a mistake, but the slow service just doesn't make it worth the money. Go for drinks, but skip this place for meals.

For an island without many restaurant options, Harry A's is a great choice. Casual atmosphere, great beer selection, and good service. I had the crab legs and enjoyed them very much. My girlfriend had the Ahi tuna and loved it as well. Would definitely recommend to friends.

Loved the food. I had the chipotle chicken tacos. Amazing, and it was a lot of food. We loved playing trivia, but I wish more adults were into karaoke... we left shortly after the same group of little kids sang their third consecutive song. It was cute once, but it's hard to keep ordering drinks when a five year old is belting out "let it go, let it go!" Going to Eddy Teach's for hopefully a more adult crowd.

My Wife and I had dinner tonight at Harry A"s and it was excellent! We have been coming to St George for several years and Harry A's has been consistently getting better. The new Manager and kitchen staff are doing an awesome job of serving tasty food even in the off season. I had the Ahi Tuna tacos and they were great! Make sure you ask for the wasabi on the side if you don't like it spicy. My wife had the Baja shrimp tacos and said they were the best she had ever had. Our server Loreal was excellent. Its very nice to come back to St George and have a great meal.

We spent Thanksgiving at St. George Island and came in here the Friday following for dinner and some drinks. Typical touristy atmosphere with live music both inside and outside. As a vegetarian, I have to say I was pleased there was at least something for me to order. I had the fried artichoke appetizer which was surprisingly delicious. Flash fried artichoke hearts drizzled with balsamic vinegar--yum! No vegetarian entrees other than a quesadilla, but for a seafood place on an island, I can't say I'm surprised. I'm just glad I wasn't stuck eating french fries. Having lived near this area for a while years ago, I will say there is much better seafood nearby off the island, but if for what it is, it's not half-bad.

This was disappointing. I didn't like my oysters at this place AT ALL. We came late and most of the front of the house had already been put away as if they were ready to close. We seemed forced to sit outside, so the wait staff seats us outside next to a fountain that seemed to be infested with mosquitoes. Two of the people in my party had to get up and walk next door to get bug spray so we could have dinner in peace from the bugs...or so we thought. The guy singing that night just didn't seem into it. I even caught him yawning. Guess you don't like singing dood. Just everyone in my party didn't seem happy with the food that came out and complained of under seasoned low country boil, over cooked shrimps, to snow crab tasting off. We really wanted to like you...I gave you two stars because at least the service was good.

We came here on our first night in Apalach, 10/27 because they are the only place in the area with food late night. Our server was fantastic. We had oysters, raw and steamed. They are not the best in the area. For price, that's Eddy Teach's, also on St. George, and for size, Papa Joes's in Apalach. Then, I ordered oyster stew--great. Hubby ordered seafood gumbo--great, not New Orleans, but we weren't in New Orleans. Then I ordered the peel n' eat shrimp platter. When you cook shell-on fish, you CAN devein them. Apparently they don't know this, so I really couldn't eat too many. Hubby ordered shrimp boil-very good. There was Karoke that night (Mon.), which was awful, but what can you do? The bar is really neat--funny posters and signs up. Very clean. Bathrooms very clean although locks need to be fixed. Fun crowd. The courtyard outside is big and pretty, complete with outdoor bar. We went back on 10/31 for drinks. Sat outside, enjoyed it. Good drinks. The band was awful! They had a woman on stage who couldn't play the tambourine--the easiest instrument to play besides the triangle! Overall, fun, pretty good food, great service, large.
